AmeriCorps Office of Inspector General FY 2024 Congressional Budget Justification

The Budget provides $8,572,000 to the AmeriCorps OIG to conduct operations and meaningful oversight. The OIG’s work is divided into two operating units, the Offices of Investigation and Audit, with support from the Offices of Information Technology, Counsel, and Mission Support, including the Inspector General’s Immediate Office.

The FY 2023 President’s Budget provides the AmeriCorps OIG $8.121 million, an increase of $1.526 million above the FY 2022 Enacted level, to sustain robust oversight. This increase will fund additional antifraud audit and investigative efforts, as well as support close oversight of multi-year agency reforms and priorities.

The Budget provides $6,960,000 to the AmeriCorps OIG, an increase of $460,000 above the FY 2021 Enacted level that will support the Administration’s oversight and transparency priorities. These resources will allow the OIG to continue delivering the audits and investigations (including those mandated by statute) needed for informed decision-making. Personnel is the largest component of the OIG’s costs, and the Budget will support two additional professionals, including a grant specialist, to expand the OIG’s oversight.

FY 2021 Comments of the Honorable Deborah J. Jeffrey Inspector General, Corporation for National and Community Service Regarding FY 2021 Funding Level for CNCS-OIG

To sustain effective oversight of CNCS as a going concern, CNCS-OIG requests an FY 2021 operating budget of $7.4 million, an increase of $1.65 million over our budget for FYs 2017 – 2020. This modest increase is necessary to restore parity with CNCS’s budget, which has grown substantially, and to ensure that we can effectively oversee a reorganizing agency that continues to confront significant risks and challenges.

FY 2020 Comments of the Honorable Deborah J. Jeffrey Inspector General, Corporation for National and Community Service FY 2020 Funding Level for CNCS-OIG

For FY 2020, CNCS-OIG requests an operating budget of $7.0 million. This $1.25 million increase over FY 2019 levels would restore CNCS-OIG to slightly above the level of support that this Office enjoyed in FY 2009.1 Funding at the current $5.75 million level would substantially inhibit our oversight.
